Throwback Thursday 1947-1948

Photo
THE WINTER OF 1947-1948 was one of the snowiest seasons on record for the Boston area, with 89.2 inches of the white stuff landing on the ground. When this photo was taken in January of 1948, Greenwood School seventh and eighth grade students were clearing the semicircular driveway in front of the school. After Fire Chief Clifford E. Jacobs expressed concern over danger that might result in case of a fire, Greenwood School principal Eliot B. Leonard volunteered the services of the older students, who brought shovels from home.
