
THE 1949 Wakefield High School baseball team also included boys from the 1950, 1951 and 1952 graduating classes. Some of the names will be familiar to longtime Wakefield residents. In the front row, from the left are Bill Miller, shortstop Richard Cardillo, Phil Perrone, catcher Joe Rich, third baseman Dave Hallahan, second baseman Jerry Glynn, and outfielder Lou Sardella. In the second row from the left are Coach Jim Walsh, Al Foley, first baseman Dick Scanlon, Kirk Moran, Ronnie Lengyel, Joe Tecce and Fred Sears. In the back row are Ray Girardin, Arthur Anderson and Al Palmerino. The 1949 team won six games against seven losses. Several members of the team, including Phil Perrone and Lou Sardella, went on to teaching careers in the Wakefield public schools. Current Wakefield resident Al Palmerino served his hometown for many years as a member of the Finance Committee.
