LYNNFIELD — The three incumbents running for Select Board and School Committee were victorious during the Town Election on Tuesday.
According to the unofficial results released by Town Clerk Linda Emerson, 1,459 out of Lynnfield’s 9,472 registered voters cast ballots in the Town Election.
Select Board member Dick Dalton was easily re-elected to a third three-year term after defeating Historical Society Treasurer Bob Gillon 967 votes to 386 votes.
“I want to thank the voters of Lynnfield for entrusting me to serve on the board for another three years,” said Dalton during Tuesday’s Select Board reorganizational meeting. “As I have done over the last six years, I promise that I will always do what is in the best interest of the town.”
Dalton thanked his wife Carmela, daughter Stacey, son Jamie, son-in-law Jon, and his grandchildren for the support they provided during the campaign. He also thanked all of his campaign supporters, including the residents who endorsed his re-election campaign by writing Letters to the Editor or making posts on social media. He also thanked the residents who held campaign signs and put signs on their front lawns.
“I certainly appreciate everything they did,” said Dalton. “I am indebted to everything they have done for me.”
Dalton also thanked the residents who donated to his campaign committee.
“I had friends and neighbors step up, when they weren’t asked to, and contribute to my campaign,” said Dalton. “It was tremendously humbling.”
In closing, Dalton thanked newly elected Select Board Chairman Phil Crawford, Select Board member Joe Connell and former Select Board member Chris Barrett for the support they have provided him over the past six years, including during the campaign.
“It has been a privilege serving on the board for the past six years, and I am looking forward to the next three,” said Dalton.
School Committee Vice Chair Stacy Dahlstedt and School Committee Chair Rich Sjoberg were re-elected to their second and third three-year terms respectively. Both incumbents easily defeated Homestead Road resident Corrie Luongo.
Dahlstedt topped the School Committee ticket after receiving 933 votes.
“I am so thrilled to have been re-elected to the Lynnfield School Committee,” said Dahlstedt in an email sent to the Villager. “I am grateful to the voters who came out to vote on Tuesday, and for all of my friends, family and neighbors who supported my campaign efforts. I am looking forward to continuing to serve the students and families in our district, and to continually improving on our great school system.”
Sjoberg finished second in the School Committee race after earning 853 votes.
“I am honored by the definitive results of Tuesday’s election,” said Sjoberg in a text message sent to the Villager. “Congratulations also to Stacy Dahlstedt! I am proud of the positive campaign I ran sharing each of the school district’s accomplishments and my small role in that success. Tonight, I will take a breath, spend some time with my family and then get back to work as we continue to move the great Lynnfield School District forward. Thank you.”
Luongo, who ran for office for the first time this spring, finished third in the School Committee race, after receiving 576 votes. Luongo had hoped that a late endorsement from former State Rep. and current Republican gubernatorial frontrunner Geoff Diehl and urging residents to bullet vote for her would propel Luongo to victory in a town that has historically supported the GOP, but the Lynnfield United-backed candidate finished third in the race.
