Patt, Cook on All-Conference team
WAKEFIELD — The Middlesex League’s girls’ swim coaches recently released their All-Star list. Making the All-Star team is earned based on times at the Middlesex League meet. The top three finishers in each event are All-Stars. The top finisher is All-Conference.
The Wakefield High girls’ swim team had two relay teams and two individual swimmers make the All-Star team.
Senior captain Katie Patt was an All-Star in two events: the 100 yard butterfly which she got with a 2nd place finish and the 100 yard backstroke which earned her a spot on the All Conference team with a 1st place finish.
Freshman Audrey Cook was also a “dual” All-Star, earning the nod in the 200 yard freestyle with a 2nd place finish and making All Conference in the 100 yard breaststroke with a 1st place finish in the league.
“Katie and Audrey had fabulous swims,” said head coach Kathy Byrne. “It will be hard to lose a talent like Katie but having a freshman like Audrey really helps.”

Wakefield, as always, had very strong relay teams this season. The 200 yard medley relay and the 200 yard freestyle relay both took 2nd place finishes at the Middlesex League meet to earn All-Star bids.
Patt and Cook teamed up with senior captain Abby Lane and senior Sophie Brown in the 2nd place 200 yard medley relay. The same four also made the All-Star list with their 2nd place time in the 200 yard freestyle relay.
Wakefield finished the season with a 4-5 record and went on to have great performances at the North Sectional and State meets. They took 11th out of 18 teams at North Sectionals and 10th overall at States.
“We are looking forward to another successful season next year,” said Byrne.

Byrne and her staff handed out team awards and announced the new captains for next season at the team’s annual banquet.
Lane and Patt passed off leadership of the team to next year’s captains: Mackenzie Grace, Grace McHugh and Sophie Seidman.
Team awards went to Patt (MVP), Cook (Rookie of the Year), McHugh (Coaches Award), Grace (Most Improved), Laila Atoui (Captain’s Award), Maria Brizon (Spirit Award) and Molly Grady (Unsung Hero).
