Two shutouts highlight strong week for girls’ soccer team

NORTH READING — On Tuesday afternoon, the North Reading High girls’ soccer team hosted Pentucket on a warm, sunny day.
The Hornets ended up winning the game 2-0. With that result, North Reading improved to 7-1-1 overall and in the Cape Ann League.
North Reading scoring once in each half. Allie Lanciani had the first goal 17:52 in assisted by Reilly Tassinari.
In the second half, Tassinari had the second tally 18:06 in and that was unassisted.
Maya Grossi (5-0) was the winning goalie as she had four saves playing the first half in net. Hannah Frew played in the second stanza and made three stops.
On Sept. 25, the Hornets shut out guest Rockport, 6-0, in the rain.
North Reading scored three goals in each half against the over-matched Vikings.
Tassinari led off the scoring assisted by Kiersten Higgins just 1:57 in. Eva Cannalonga made it 2-0 with the assist going to Lanciani at the 19:28 mark.
Ariana Demetri had the final tally of the first half with Tassinari assisting at 31:17.
At the 5:14 mark of the second half, Lanciani made it 4-0 as Tassinari picked up her second assist.
Higgins, at the 12:08 mark, made it 5-0 with the assist going to Shea Farmer.
Just 1:58 later, Lillian Arian Aitchison had the final goal of the day and that was unassisted.
Frew played the first half in net and got the win going to 2-1-1 while Grossi played the second half in goal as both goalkeepers did not see any shots on net.
On Oct. 2, the Hornets host Newburyport at 4:30 p.m.
On Oct. 7, head coach Sean Killeen’s squad goes to Amesbury. That game will also start at 4:30 p.m.
The first MIAA power rankings came out last Friday and North Reading is ranked 20th in Division 3. The top 32 teams at the end of the regular season automatically qualify for the state tournament regardless of overall record.
