AMESBURY — It was an easy day for the North Reading High boys’ soccer team on Tuesday afternoon as they steamrolled host Amesbury 7-0.

The Hornets had three goals in the first half and tacked on four more in the second stanza.

“They have a young team with a small roster and we were able to wear them down,” pointed out Hornets head coach Mark Bisognano.

Davi Leao and Max Gulino both found the Red Hawk net twice while single goals were scored by Joe Serra, Gavin Wesley and Asher Schulz.

Finn Rodger had two assists to lead the team.

Hornet goalkeeper, Cam Parrett, only had to make one save in net to record his seventh shutout of the year.

This game was played in a bubble dome at Maples Crossing.

North Reading improved to 11-0-1 overall and 10-0-1 in the Cape Ann League with the win.

On Oct. 3, the Hornets blanked Triton, 4-0, up in Byfield. North Reading ended up sweeping the series against the Vikings as they shut them out in the first meeting as well, 6-0, back on Sept. 5.

Duncan Gulino scored the first goal in the seventh minute assisted by Leao. Duncan’s brother, Max, made it 2-0 in the 25th minute assisted by Matt Fleury.

In the final minute of the first half, Jackson Wesley scored the third goal with Rodger assisting.

Leao had the second-half tally at the 47 minute mark and that tally was unassisted.

“We had firm control from the start,” said Bisognano. “They were also very shorthanded.”

Parrett made two saves in this contest.

The next game for the Hornets will be on Oct. 10 as they host Pentucket at 4:45 p.m. looking for the season sweep.

The biggest game of the season will then take place on Oct. 15 as the Hornets host rival Lynnfield at 4:30 p.m. with first place in the CAL Kinney Division on the line.

The teams played to a scoreless tie in the first meeting back on Sept. 19.

North Reading entered this game seeded 6th by the MIAA in the Division 3 power rankings.
