With that win, the Pioneers improved to 11-2 overall. Meanwhile, the Panthers, a team out of the Northeastern Conference, fell to 1-10.

Lynnfield took command in the opening 24 minutes as they led, 8-1, at the half.

“Despite that it was raining all game, we kept focused,” said Pioneers head coach Pat Lamusta.

Senior Owen Considine, the team’s top scorer, led the way with six goals while Kelan Cardinal had three goals and three assists. Cardinal, a senior, also had five ground balls to lead the team in that stat.

Lynnfield goalie Ben Pimentel made 12 saves to go to 11-2 in net.

On May 7, also at home, the Pioneers defeated Ipswich, 13-10, to complete the season sweep over the Tigers.

With that victory, the Pioneers improved to 9-1 in the Cape Ann League.

“Both games against them were tough,” admitted Lamusta. “They play great defense and are actually ranked higher than us, as of now, in Division 4.”

The Pioneers led, 7-6, at  the half and 11-9, after the third quarter as the Tigers hung around all afternoon.

Cardinal led the offense in this game with five goals and two assists. Powers found the back of the Tiger net four times while Considine had two goals and two assists.

Murphy had a team-high five assist to go with one goal while Doherty had one goal and one assist.

Daley led the team in ground balls with seven while Tyler Maddocks had a season-high 20 face-off wins.

“Tyler came up huge,” stated Lamusta. “This is the best he played all year.”

Pimentel turned back 11 shots on net.

On Thursday, the Pioneers visit Manchester-Essex at 6:30 p.m. The Hornets won the first meeting, 9-7, on April 15 as Lynnfield is trying to get a split of the season series.

On May 19, the Pioneers go to Danvers to take on Essex Tech at 4 p.m.

The Pioneers are No. 7 in the MIAA Division 4 power rankings. Ipswich is No. 6. The top 32 teams at the end of the regular season automatically qualify for the state tournament.
