Girls’ soccer beats Fenwick on Senior Night, hosts the Vineyard in first round
By STEPHEN MARTELLUCCI

NORTH READING — The North Reading High girls’ soccer team wrapped up its regular season on a high note on Oct. 29 as they beat visiting Bishop Fenwick, 3-1, on Senior Night.
With that non-league win, the Hornets ended the regular season at 12-2-4 while the Crusaders ended up at 11-5-2.
Reilly Tassinari scored the first goal 17:30 in assisted by Allie Lanciani.
The Crusaders then tied it with only 22 seconds left in the first half as Reese Spurchise found the back of the Hornets net.
The eventual game-winning goal was scored by Lanciani on a penalty kick 14:58 into the second stanza.
Higgins had the final tally, unassisted, 35:15 in to close the door.
Hornet goalkeeper, Hannah Frew, made four saves in net as she relieved senior Maya Menis who started and made one stop.
Before the game, the 12 Hornet seniors were honored.
“It was great to end the season with a strong performance,” said Hornets head coach Sean Killeen. “We hope we can build off this for the tournament. It was very appropriate that our three goals scored were from senior captains and four-year varsity players. This is a very talented class, but Tassinari, Higgins and Lanciani have made their mark on this program and set a new standard.”
The Hornets are the 9th seed in the MIAA Division 3 state tournament. On Wednesday night, they hosted 24th-seeded Martha’s Vineyard in the Round of 32 (result not available at press time).
If the Hornets win that game, they will play the winner of the No. 25 Tewksbury vs. No. 8 Belchertown game in the Round of 16 (date, time and location unknown as of press time).
