LYNNFIELD — It was  a very successful Senior Day for the Lynnfield High boys’ tennis team on May 20 as they shut out guest Rockport, 5-0, on a cool, cloudy day.

With the win, the Pioneers ended the regular season at 13-3 overall and 10-3 in the Cape Ann League.

After winning the CAL Kinney Division crown the past six years, the Pioneers finished in second place in the division behind Newburyport, who beat LHS twice this spring.

“The seniors had a great day and a lot of fun,” said Lynnfield head coach Joe Dunn as the six seniors were honored before the match and they then had a meal together after the match.

Shea McCarthy, at first singles, won, 6-1, 6-0, while Shlok Kudrimoti  won in shutout fashion, 6-0, 6-0, at second singles. Emile Coumans easily won, 6-0, 6-1, at third singles.

In doubles action, the first team of Raffi Arkun and Matt Reinold won, 6-0, 6-1, while Ashkrit Mahajan and Mahir Akhter won, 6-1, 6-2, at second doubles.

The six Pioneer 12th-graders this spring are McCarthy, Kudrimoti, Coumans, Arkun, Reinold and Mahajan.

The non-league match at Marblehead, scheduled for May 21s, was rained out and will not be made up.

On May 23 the seedings came out for the MIAA Division 4 state tournament. Lynnfield is the second seed and they will open at home on Wednesday against Springfield International Charter School at 1 p.m.

Springfield International is the 31st seed as they will enter the match with a record of 9-5. If Lynnfield wins, they will host a Round of 16 match against the winner of No. 15 Rockland vs. No. 18 Nantucket.

“I am very happy with where we are seeded,” said Dunn.

Manchester-Essex, who beat the Pioneers in the Div 4 state final last year, is the top seed. The Hornets beat the Pioneers 4-1 back on May 8.
