Varsity sport action underway next week

MELROSE—With the dog days of summer behind us, fall sports are fast approaching and that means the return of Melrose High varsity games, which kick off next week.

Falls proves to be the school’s most winningest of sport seasons, and last year was no exception, so there is a good chance Melrose fans will see some hardware earned over the fall months.

Here’s a quick look at next week’s season-opening games. A full MHS fall season schedule (and previews) will run next week.

Boys soccer: Thurs. Sept. 7 @ Woburn, 4:30

Girls’ soccer: Thurs., Sept. 7 v. Woburn, 6:30

Volleyball: Thurs., Sept. 7 v. Woburn, 5:30

Field hockey:  Wed. Sept. 6 4:15 p.m. (Pine Banks)

Football: Friday, Sept. 8 @ Reading. 7:00 p.m.

Golf: Thurs., Sept 7 @Arlington (Winchester CC)

Girls Swim: Wed. Sept. 13 @ Woburn 4:00

Cross Country: Tues. Sept 12 @ Lexington, 4:15

Football fans:

Melrose football has five home games, all Friday nights, including games against Malden, Lexington, Stoneham, Burlington, and Watertown. Their season opener is on the road against Reading (Sept 8) and their home opener against Malden on Sept. 15 (early 6:00 p.m. start)
