Volleyball team beats North Andover 3-2 for third straight win

NORTH ANDOVER — The Lynnfield High volleyball team won their third straight match and improved to 11-2 on the season with an exciting, 3-2 win over non-league North Andover on Friday night at NAHS.
In a classic back-and-forth matchup, the Pioneers cruised in set one, 25-11 before the Knights bounced back with a 25-18 victory in set two. Lynnfield took the third set 25-18 but North Andover battled to take the 4th, 27-25. In the fifth and deciding set, Lynnfield came away with a 15-10 win.
Junior captain Audrey Manning was lights out in this one with 18 kills, 10 digs and 16 assists. Senior captain Alexia Vaquerano had 13 kills, 2 aces, 16 digs and 27 serve receptions.
Chipping in on the attack was sophomore Mia Labkovich (5 kills, 2 blocks) and senior captain Olivia Kelter (5 kills, 2 aces, 8 digs, 16 receptions). Junior Thayer Sutherland had 5 of Lynnfield’s 14 aces. Junior Elliana Moretti had 2 aces, 21 digs, 6 assists and 14 receptions.
Lynnfield was coming off a strong CAL victory on Sept. 30 when they beat Pentucket on the road, 3-1.
The Pioneers, who completed a season sweep of the Panthers, came back from a 25-22 loss in the first set to win three in a row, 25-10, 25-13 and 25-18.
Moretti sparked a strong defensive effort with 17 digs and 26 serve receptions. She also had 4 aces. Kelter had 11 digs and 14 receptions.
Manning had 13 kills, 2 aces and 16 assists. Vaquerano had 10 kills, 6 aces, 10 digs and 10 receptions.
Lynnfield officially punched their ticket to the Div. 3 state tournament with that win. They were ranked No. 7 in the latest power rankings released by the MIAA on Tuesday.
