WAKEFIELD — The Wakefield High boys’ lacrosse team improved to 2-0 on the season with a 21-5 victory over Woburn at Landrigan Field on Thursday.

The Warriors were locked in from start to finish during their home-opener, cruising to an easy victory.

Earning player of the game honors was sophomore John Scarpello who dominated on the attack during his first home game at Wakefield High. Scarpello finished with an incredible 10 points on 6 goals and 4 assists.

The Warriors also had three players who each scored their first career varsity goals: sophomores John Taylor and Dan Curran and freshman Max Walsh.

Wakefield’s home game was a brief reprise as they will get ready for three straight road matchups. Four of Wakefield’s first five games this season are away.

The competition will ramp up right away for the Warriors this week as they visit Belmont on Wednesday at 6 p.m. and then rival Melrose on Friday at 4:15 p.m.

Belmont beat Wakefield 9-8 last season. The Marauders are currently 2-1.

Melrose beat Wakefield 11-5 last year. They defeated Belmont 12-2 on April 1 and are also 2-1. Melrose beat Lynnfield 11-7 to start the season and fell to Middlesex League powerhouse Reading 12-1 on Friday.
