
BOSTON — The Wakefield boys’ track and field team once again made an impact at the Division 4 State Championship on Saturday at the Reggie Lewis Center. While they didn’t defend their state title from last year, Wakefield put up 45.5 points by scoring in multiple events throughout the day and finished 3rd out of more than 30 teams.
Frankie Sullivan continued to prove that he is the real deal by popping a 50 foot 0.75 inch bomb, to improve by over 2 feet on his previous best in the shot put. The performance placed him 2nd after being ranked 5th going into the meet.
JaMauri Belmer also put up some major points in the field events with his 4th place finish in the long jump with his 20’10” jump. Belmer also cleared 5’10” to tie for 7th in the high jump.
Ethan Mezikofsky placed 6th in the 600 meters running 1:25.31. Aidan Martin also ran the 600 placing 20th in 1:31.38.
Tyler Galante ran a personal best in the mile of 4:53.71 to place 19th.
In the 300 meters, Brody Wyatt placed 10th in 36.71 seconds. Isaac Melo was 13th in 36.93.
Another highlight on the track was Brandon Nett placing an incredible 2nd place in the 2 mile. Nett improved by 12 seconds running sub-10 for the first time, finishing with a time of 9:56.48.
Andrew Nett placed 10th in 10:25.42. Devin DeBeradinis placed 13th in a time of 10:39.68. Marcello Caruso ran 10:47.13 for 16th. Max Viselli ran 10:59.02 for 27th.
The 4×200 meter relay team of Edgard Meneguello, Jackson Conley, Brody Wyatt and Isaac Melo placed 5th with a time of 1:35.50.
The 4×800 meter relay team of Aidan Burd, Evan Buonopane-Cohen, Jacob Ciriello and Ethan Mezikofsky placed 2nd in a time of 8:34.04.
The 4×400 meter relay team of Melo, Burd, Mezikofsky and Wyatt placed 2nd in a time of 3:34.34.
The boys will have to wait and see who qualifies for the Meet of Champions this weekend.
