David Gibbs, 84

WAKEFIELD — David L. Gibbs, age 84, formerly of Wakefield and resident of Stoneham, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, June 5. Born in Melrose on October 29, 1940, he was the son of the late Joseph L. and Lillian M. (Ryan) Gibbs.

David graduated from Wakefield High School, class of 1958 before serving in the United States Army with assignments both domestically and in Vietnam. He later became a licensed electrician and worked for many years at MITRE Corporation in Bedford until his retirement.

David appreciated life’s simple pleasures such as playing cribbage and chess, listening to the radio while working on his H.O. scale model trains and enjoying a cold beer or wine and cheese with his meals.

David and his wife Kathleen spent many enjoyable vacations in Boothbay Harbor, ME and North Conway, NH. He often reminisced about their cruises to Alaska and the Caribbean with great fondness and had hoped to embark on another adventure someday.

David is survived by his beloved wife Kathleen G. (Haladay) Gibbs with her they celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary on May 14. He is also survived by his brother-in-law and sister-in-law Fred and Patricia Haladay of Manchester, NH and Richard and Kristine Haladay of Epping, NH, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be held at McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Thursday, June 12 at 12 p.m. Visitation for relatives and friends will take place at the funeral home on Thursday from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. prior to the service.
