WAKEFIELD — The Middlesex League’s boys’ lacrosse coaches met recently to vote on All-Stars for the 2025 season. Five members of the Wakefield High boys’ lacrosse team were named All-Stars: senior midfielder Ryan Metsis, junior attackmen Seamus Cable and Brady Walsh, junior defenseman JP Casey and sophomore attackman John Scarpello.
Metsis, Cable and Casey were all captains for the Warriors who had a terrific season with an overall record of 16-4.
“Three of the five All-Stars are captains for us and the other two are undoubtedly leaders for our team,” said head coach Andy Wells. “Seamus and Brady both hit career milestones this season, each surpassing 100 career goals and 200 career points.
“Ryan and JP fortified our defense this season, who as a group improved our goals against from 197 last season, to 148 this season.
“John played a huge role on our offense and was a big part of us generating 100 more goals from last season to this season.”
The Warriors scored 152 goals last year and had 252 this season.
“Except for Metsis, we are lucky to be bringing them all back next season and are excited to see them develop further,” said Wells who concluded his second year at the helm by leading No. 8 Wakefield to the Div. 3 state quarterfinals after beating No. 25 Ashland 11-5 in the first round and No. 9 East Longmeadow 12-6 in the Round of 16. The Warriors fell to No. 1 Medfield 18-5 in the Elite 8.
“This season was successful in a lot of ways,” said Wells. “Improving our win total from 7 last year to 16 this year was a very positive development. We talked as a team about hosting a playoff game and we got to host and win two. We’re proud of how motivated the team was from the first practice and how they stayed together no matter what.
“Our focus was to take things one day at a time and control what we can control and everyone on the team bought in and helped hold each other accountable. We certainly lose some key contributors from our senior class but we will bring back much of our team next season to go along with a promising freshman class.
“Looking forward to next year, we’re hopeful that the experience we continued to gain this year pays off with additional playoff success.”
