Five Warriors named to girls’ indoor track All-Star team

WAKEFIELD — The Wakefield High girls’ indoor track team had five student athletes represented on the annual Middlesex League All-Star team this season: senior Lily Sallee (1 mile), junior Abby Hartigan (55 meters), junior Maya Palic (high jump), sophomore Quin Wilcox (1000 meters) and freshman Ella Ferrell (2 mile).

The Warriors went 2-3 in the regular season and finished tied for 8th out of 34 scoring teams at the Div. 4 state championship meet.

Multiple Wakefield competitors went on to have even more postseason success after states. Wilcox, competing in her debut indoor track season, took 3rd in the 1000 meters at the Meet of Champions, setting a new school record with a time of 3:00.18. It was the second school record set by Wilcox this winter as she also broke the 600 meter record with a time of 1:39.85.

The 4×800 relay team of Sallee, Wilcox, Ferrell and freshman Laurel Renzi qualified for Nike Nationals with a time of 10:10.39 and went on to hit 10:02.09 at Nationals in New York City.

Joining that team at Nationals was the Sprint Medley relay team of Sallee, Wilcox, Hartigan and freshman Talia Galante. They ran at time of 4:31.51 at the big event.

Wilcox also ran a personal best of 2:19.72 in the 800 meters at Nationals.
