Daily Item Football Contest returns next week

The Wakefield Daily Item’s 62nd annual football contest will return this Tuesday, Sept. 5. There were over $1,000 in prizes given out last season. There is a weekly prize for each winner over the 11 weeks run with a grand prize given out by the Wakefield Daily Item at the end of the season to the weekly winner with the fewest losses in any of the weeks.

If there is a tie for the Grand Prize then the winner will be determined by the weekly winner that was closest in score to the featured game of the week that they won.

The Grand Prize will be awarded at the end of the 11 weeks that the contest runs. Weekly prizes will be handed out after each week along with a photo at the business that has the featured game in its weekly ad.

With 11 sponsors lined up for this year, the top 11 professional and college games will be listed on the advertisements of the football pages along with an entry form. Contestants will fill out the form picking the winner for each game and fill in the winner and the score of the featured game, which is the tiebreaker.

The Football Contest games will be printed every Tuesday, starting on Sept. 5.

Entries can be mailed or brought to sports editor Dan Pawlowski at the Wakefield Daily Item on 26 Albion St. before 2 p.m. on Friday’s every week. A box will be available in the lobby to drop off your form.

All winners must agree to have their photo appear in the Wakefield Daily Item in order to receive the prize.
