WAKEFIELD — The Middlesex League’s girls’ lacrosse coaches recently met to vote on All-Stars for the 2025 season.

Wakefield, who finished the regular season with a record of 8-10, had four All-Stars selected: freshman Teaghan Johnson, junior Emma Ickes, sophomore Keira O’Brien and senior captain Maddy Taylor.

Johnson was one of 12 players across the league named to the All-Conference team. She ended the season with a team-high 62 goals, 12 assists, 14 caused turnovers and set a new school record for most draw controls in a single season with 163.

“Teaghan was very impactful this season as a freshman,” said head coach Cara Luca. “She is a very humble athlete who is a playmaker, has strong game awareness and focuses on teamwork.”

Ickes was one of Wakefield’s leaders on defense. She had 16 caused turnovers this year.

“Emma really stepped up her level of play and communication on the field this season,” said Luca. “She did a great job of giving feedback to the team whether it be letting them know when we are at full strength, how much time is left or a simple, ‘great cut’. Her ability to read plays, execute effective stick checks and disrupt passing lanes was great.”

O’Brien was Wakefield’s leading point scorer this year with 53 goals and 28 assists. She also added 14 draw controls.

“Keira was able to find the back of the net by getting through defenders, even if it meant getting sticks to the body,” said Luca. “She progressed with each game. Not only was Keira a goal scorer, but she led the team in assists.”

Taylor embraced her role as a Warrior captain and a strong defensive presence this season. She had 3 goals and 7 caused turnovers.

“Maddy was great at anticipating passes and forcing turnovers which led to offensive plays,” said Luca. “She worked well with fellow defensemen in sliding and doubling. She also had good communication skills to help with our zone defense.”

Taylor, captain Shea Suntken and fellow seniors Ayla Willis, Ally Bligh and Leah Conners were all excellent leaders and will leave a lasting legacy behind for Wakefield lacrosse.

Next year, the Warriors will hope to improve even more led by their returning three All-Stars.

Wakefield finished second in the Freedom Division with a league record of 7-4, just one game back of Melrose. They beat Winchester 10-8, the first win over the Red and Black in program history. They also had a clutch, 10-8 win over Burlington who finished one game back of the Warriors in the league standings.

Wakefield earned the No. 20 seed in the Div. 3 state tournament and traveled to No. 13 Old Rochester where they fell 11-8 in a hard-fought, first round matchup.
