WAKEFIELD — Izzy Stratton, a member of Wakefield Girl Scout Troop #62842 recently completed her Silver award project, the second highest award in Girl Scouts. For this project she wrote a children’s book titled “The Great Food Rescue.” This book teaches about food waste or how the extra food we throw away leads to global warming. In addition it teaches about how we can take action and rescue food that would have been thrown out.
She was able to share her book in classrooms in both Wakefield and Melrose. She even returned to her Dolbeare Kindergarten classroom with Ms. Gallant to be a guest reader of her book. The book will also be on the shelves of The Wakefield Beebe Library soon. Izzy was inspired to do this project from her own food rescue volunteering with The Food Drive, a non-profit Food Rescue based in Melrose.
