Loved Irish and country music, knitting, gardening and trips to theme parks

WAKEFIELD — Janet M. Sullivan, 82, of Wakefield passed away peacefully on April 22 at the Kaplan House in Danvers after a long battle with Alzheimer’s and Dementia. 

Born on June 11, 1942 in Revere, Janet was the daughter of the late Ernest and Mary (Shaw) D’amore.

Janet attended and graduated from Nazareth Academy in Wakefield. She married the love of her life Robert T. Sullivan and had two children Michael and Daniel. Robert, a Wakefield Fire Lieutenant was killed in the line of duty in 1974. Janet somehow overcame this tragedy and raised her two sons who both became Wakefield Firefighters.

She was an avid lover of both Irish and country music. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting, making many afghans, mittens and hats for numerous family members. Janet also enjoyed gardening and tending to her rose bushes. She also enjoyed her many trips to the Disney theme parks and many National Parks and monuments. She was a passionate advocate for veterans and a loyal member of the American Legion Auxiliary.

Janet was predeceased by her two long-time partners Richard Gutro and Thomas Collins. She spent many happy years with both before each passed away from long-term health issues. She is predeceased by her brother Ernest R. D’amore Jr. and her sister Joanne D’amore (Barge). She is survived by her son Michael and his wife Lisa of Wakefield and her son Daniel and his wife Jennifer of North Reading; her grandchildren Stephanie Sullivan O’Connor and her husband Leighton; Patrick Sullivan; Jessica Sullivan and her husband Sam Griffin; Jennifer Sullivan and her partner Ameer Noufal; and Joey Sullivan.  

Family and friends are invited to the calling hours on Sunday, April 27 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield. A funeral service will be held on Monday, April 28 at 10 a.m. at the Wakefield/Lynnfield United Methodist Church, 273 Vernon St., Wakefield with interment at Forest Glade Cemetery, Lowell St., Wakefield.
