Valued her family above all else
FLUSHING, NY — Elizabeth P. (Betty) Kilkell
y, 90, died on January 17 after a long illness.
Betty was the daughter of the late Lizzie (Bruen) and Michael McHugh and was born and grew up in the Bronx along with summers at Rockaway Beach. She graduated from Cathedral High School in Manhattan and Katherine Gibbs School. After marrying in 1958, Betty and Frank moved to Flushing in 1961 and Betty was active in many roles at St. Kevin’s Church and St. Kevin’s School including in the Rosary Society where she had many close friends. Betty worked for 22 years as a legal secretary and claims administrator for Local 875 Teamsters Health & Welfare Fund in Elmhurst before retiring in 1998.
She was the cherished wife for 65 years of the late Francis J. (Frank) Kilkelly, Jr. Betty was the loving mother and mother-in-law of Michael and Susan Kilkelly; Bernard and Maureen Kilkelly; Francis Xavier and Annie Kilkelly; and Eileen and Chris Westfahl. She was the adored Nana of Peter (Jessica), Margaret, Bernadette, Justine (Drew), Brian (Molly), Caroline (Luke), William (Julia), Bridget, Abigail, Josh (Erinn), Kevin (Chelsea) and Richard and Steven (Trish). She was the proud great-grandmother of Xavier, August, Henry, Wilhelmina, Eleanor, Scott, Oliver and Lucy. Betty was also the beloved aunt of many nephews and nieces including several godchildren. She valued her family above all else and will be greatly missed by all.
The family of Elizabeth P. Kilkelly will be receiving visitors on Friday, January 24 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Frederick Funeral Home, 192-15 Northern Blvd., Flushing, NY 11358. Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated on Saturday, January 25 at 9:45 a.m. at St. Kevin RC Church, 25-21 194th St., Flushing, NY 11358. Internment to follow at Mt. St. Mary’s Cemetery, 172-00 Booth Memorial Ave., Flushing, NY 11365. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Betty’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association, alz.org or a charity of your choice.
