Loved word games, the Patriots, animals and horseback riding

WAKEFIELD — Evelyn Margaret Ray, of Wakefield died peacefully on June 9 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was 80 years old, though her spirit was much younger. Lynny was born in Woburn on December 16, 1944. She was predeceased by her parents Edith (nee Elliot) and Robert Ray and is survived by her cousins Natalie Desjardins, Paul MacDonald, Kathleen Adams, Marilyn Uribe and Bonnie O’Connell. Lynny was a lifelong resident of MA growing up in Woburn, but spent much of her adult life in Wakefield with her devoted long-time conservator Joan Motowylak.

Lynny was a bright light in the lives of everyone who knew her. She had a passion for word games and was exceptionally good at them. As a New Englander, Lynny was a devoted fan of The Patriots and loved watching their games every week. She was a lover of all animals, especially her cat Molly who brought her much joy. She also enjoyed horseback riding and once even rode an elephant!

Despite the challenges of cerebral palsy and cancer, Lynny maintained a cheerful outlook on life. She was a spiritual person who enjoyed being an active member of the First Baptist Church of Wakefield and could often be seen greeting fellow parishioners. Lynny’s adventurous nature propelled her to explore new places and experience what life offered her. She enjoyed everything from simple walks around town, to more exciting adventures such as visits to Niagara Falls, Disney World and even to the top of Mount Washington.

Lynny will be remembered as a kind and loving soul with an infectious smile that she extended to everyone she met. Her neighbors at Foster St. were like family to her, always offering support and friendship. She made so many friends wherever she went and no doubt, all those friends will forever remember her with fondness and affection.

Lynny’s pure, kind and loving heart along with her positive attitude and big smile touched the lives of many. Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Friday, June 27 from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. with a service beginning at 5:30 p.m. A private interment will take place at a later date.
