Had a loving heart with a smile that would light up the room
WAKEFIELD — Louis J. Gordon, 92 passed away on February 9, 2022 at home. He was born in Boston to the late Clarence Gordon and Mary Amiirault both from Nova Scotia Canada on July 11, 1929.
He was the beloved husband of the Late Shirley (Hayward) Gordon. He was the loving father of Steven Gordon of Newburyport, Mary O’Connell of Stoneham and Louis J Gordon of Wakefield. He was the grandfather of Ryan, Tyler, Kyle, Ashley, Matthew, Marc and Timothy. The great grandfather of Haile and Aiden. Lou was one of thirteen children and was survived by brothers, Leonard of Kingston, N.H.; Albert of Sandwich and Lowell of Boston.
Lou enlisted in the Korean war at 17. He had many stories about the war. One memorable one was when he was driving a truck filled with dynamite down a hill and the breaks let go, he had to jump out and roll. After the war, he and his brother started an Iron Works company and named it L&L Iron Works which was very successful. He had a passion for travel, gardening, the ocean and fishing. In his younger years him and his wife, Shirley, loved to travel. They treasured spending time in Hawaii and Aruba. When they were not traveling, they had many adventures to the local casino when many times they would win. Lou had his own strategy of watching the machines for a while to see which one he felt was getting ready for a payout. Sure, enough that one would hit the jackpot; he was lucky like that. Each time he would tell someone a story about the casino you could see the sparkle in his eyes and his smile would light up the room. We would look forward to hearing about his winnings. Lou had a great passion for gardening; everyone got tons of vegetables. He loved to take out his Grady White and go fishing with family and friends bringing home the catch of the day. Lou had a loving heart and everyone that knew him loved him. We miss him daily, rest in peace Dad. We love you!
Lou’s services will take place at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne, (508-563-7113) on February 23 at 11:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Massachusetts/ New Hampshire Chapter (Alz.org).
