Opera Club to explore themes in Italian masterworks in October

WAKEFIELD — The following comes from Opera Club of Wakefield founder Howard Hart.

Dear Opera Club Members,

Our recent meeting, “Chestnuts in August,” was a great success, with five new members joining us. It was our first summer gathering since the early days of our meetings, and I want to thank each of you for helping make our opera club not only a place to learn about and enjoy this great art form, but also a welcoming space to share your thoughts and passions about particular operas, composers, and singers.

Looking ahead, on October 11 we will celebrate Italian Heritage Month. In keeping with tradition, we’ll honor our shared love of opera through the music of Monteverdi, Rossini, Donizetti, Bellini, Verdi, Puccini, and other beloved composers.

Our final meeting of 2025 will be on November 29. The theme will be “Why Opera? Why Not Opera?” Together, we’ll explore why opera sometimes carries a stigma, and why it continues to captivate so many of us. Join us for this lively discussion, wonderful music, and a few surprises!

Looking forward to seeing you in October.

On a high note,

Howard Hart
