WAKEFIELD — Wakefield’s Jack Pennacchia verbally committed to the Saint Anselm College baseball team last week.
Pennacchia just completed a terrific junior season in which he earned his second consecutive All-Star nod while also being named to the Middlesex League’s nine-man All-Conference team.
The pitcher/first baseman had a great season on the mound and led the Warriors in most offensive categories including RBI (22), walks (19), doubles (4), triples (2) home runs (3), on-base percentage (.513), slugging percentage (.649) and OPS (1.162). He had an average of .351 and was named team MVP.
Pennacchia had multiple great games on the hill, the highlight being in the Div. 2 state tournament’s round of 16. He entered the game in the 4th inning after the Warriors had turned a 4-0 deficit into a 4-4 tie in the top of the 4th. Pennacchia went on to shut out the previously undefeated Rams in 4 innings, allowing just 2 hits and no walks while fanning 4 and also collecting a team-high 2 hits at the dish to lead Wakefield to victory.
Pennacchia and the Warriors finished the regular season at 15-5 and went 3-1 in the Div. 3 state tournament, making it to the Final Four.
