Enjoyed relaxing, reading and nature around her home
VIRGINIA — Priscilla Stormont Foss, age 92, passed away on Monday, October 30 at The Rocky Mount Health and Rehab in Rocky Mount, VA. Formerly of Wakefield she spent the majority of her life at her family home and business on Albion St. The Oxbow Pet Shop was established in 1946 by her parents Beatrice and John Stormont. There, her love of breeding and training dogs began and by her teens she was participating in and showing award winning canines. She took over her family business and together, with her husband and daughters, became the family pet shop that decades of children formed loving memories of visiting, buying and caring for their first pets.
Mrs. Foss was a 1950 Wakefield High School graduate and alumni of Nasson College in Springvale, ME. It was there that she met her husband of 47 years, Ernest Foss. Together they enjoyed traveling to Europe and all over the United States in their Airstream trailer. Many summers were spent at the family home in Roseway, Nova Scotia and she was very proud of her Newfoundland heritage.
She was an active member of the Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Wakefield, serving on many committees and when her husband passed in February of 2000, she established the Ernest Foss Fund for the children of the churchs’ activities. She was a member of the Harmony Chapter #60 Order of Eastern Star and The Priscilla Chapter #52 in Reading.
In her most recent years she spent her time in Phoenix, AZ with her daughter Edith and then in Ferrum, VA with her loving daughter Gayle. Her time in Virginia was spent doing what she loved: relaxing, reading and enjoying the nature surrounding their home, time with her pets, wildlife and reminiscing of all the times she had spent with good friends and her family.
Mrs. Foss is survived by her daughter Gayle Higgins; her grandson Ryan Curran; her son James Ernest of Portland, OR; her granddaughter Kelly Curran; her son Aaron Canastaro of MA; her granddaughter Theresa Higgins; and her daughters Artesia and Saoirse of PA. She was loved by many friends and many cousins. She was predeceased by her daughter Edith Curran in 2018. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and who had the privilege of having known her.
