Warriors travel to Medfield for Round of 16 tomorrow

WAKEFIELD — The Wakefield High boys’ tennis team put together a complete team effort in an impressive 5-0 win over Ashland on Wednesday at the Dobbins Courts. The 12th-ranked Warriors will now visit No. 5 Medfield in the Round of 16 tomorrow at 2 p.m.

Wakefield cruised in straight sets for four of the five matches against the Clockers. 

The Warriors lost just two games combined in their three singles matches. 

Senior captains Luke Greif (first singles) and Kevin DeGray (third singles) both won by 6-0, 6-0 sweeps. 

At second singles, senior Trevor Veilleux also rolled to a 6-1, 6-1 victory. 

At first doubles, seniors Kip King and Ahmed Othman won, 6-0, 6-1. 

Senior Owen Kelley and junior Connor Sliski competed together at second doubles. They won the first set, 6-2 before falling 4-6 in the second. The duo held strong in a 10-point tiebreaker in the third, winning 10-8 to give the Warriors their 5-0 sweep.

Wakefield, who improved to 12-6 overall this season, has since been getting ready for a tough test in the next round. Medfield improved to 13-2 overall with a 5-0 win in the first round against No. 28 Wilmington. The two teams will meet at the Medway Middle School tennis courts tomorrow.
