
ARLINGTON — The Warrior volleyball team kicked off the first week of fall sports at Wakefield High with a 3-1 victory on the road against Arlington Catholic yesterday.
Wakefield won the first set, 25-22 and the second set 25-23 before the Cougars won set three 25-17. Wakefield finished it up with a 25-22 win in set four.
The 1-0 Warriors will meet Lexington next in their home opener tomorrow night, 6:30 p.m. at the Charbonneau Field House. The Minutemen start their season tonight at home against Waltham. Lexington beat Wakefield 3-1 in their only matchup of the season last year.
The week will then get busier and busier for Warrior fall sports teams.
The field hockey team will play next as they host Lexington in their season opener today, 4:15 p.m. at Landrigan Field. Lexington won the matchup last year, 4-0. The Warriors will then visit Arlington on Friday at 4:15 p.m.
The Warrior golfers will look to get in the win column in their home opener against Northeast Metro Tech tomorrow, 4 p.m. at Thomson Country Club.
The Wakefield girls’ and boys’ soccer teams will kick off their seasons against Lexington at 4:15 p.m. tomorrow. The girls’ will play at their home Walton Field looking to avenge a 4-1 loss to the Minutemen last year. The boys’ will head to Lincoln Park one year after an historic 3-2 victory over Lexington last season, the first in over 10 years.
Also on Friday, the football team will kick off their 2023 season on the road against Greater Lawrence Tech at 6 p.m. A season preview will appear in tomorrow’s sports section.
