BURLINGTON — The Wakefield High girls’ cross country team traveled to Burlington High yesterday where they defeated the Red Devils 15-50 for their second consecutive sweep following their meet against Melrose last week.

Lily Sallee led the Warrior pack followed closely by Liza Bangston, Charlotte O’Neil, Grace Brackett, Julia Welch and Lexi Yianacopolus. Those six crossed the finish line before Burlington’s first runner.

“I am very happy with the way the team ran today. They were very effective pack running,” said Wakefield head coach Karen Barrett. “We need to continue to close the gap between our first and 6th runner. We did a much better job of that today.”

The Warriors are now 3-0 on the season and 2-0 in Freedom Division meets. Wakefield will host Watertown in their next dual meet on Tuesday, Oct. 3 at 4 p.m.

First, the Warriors will get ready for their first invitational of the season as they will compete in the Frank Kelley Invitational this weekend in Wrentham, which is where the state meet will be held this season.

“This is a good practice run to get to know the course for our divisional meet in November,” said Barrett.
