
WAKEFIELD — The Wakefield High wrestling team continued their terrific season this week with a 3-0 sweep of a quad meet held at the Charbonneau Field House on Saturday and a dual meet victory over Lynnfield/North Reading last night.
The Warriors came away with three victories against three quality teams on Saturday, topping Tewksbury (42-36), Triton (40-26) and Reading (51-22).
The meet against Tewksbury was much anticipated, a team the Warriors frequently match up against in various tournaments including the postseason.
Once again, the fate of the entire meet came down to the last bout as Wakefield’s Kip King shook hands with Daniel Gonzalez at 285 with the two squads tied at 36-36. King left no doubts of a Wakefield win, pinning Gonzalez in just 24 seconds.
Earlier, with the Warriors down 18-6, Aydin Lamb pinned Ryan Callahan in 2:55 at 132 to make it 18-12.
After Tewksbury went up 24-12, the Warriors rattled off five wins in a row to regain the lead, including a 13-6 decision by James Fabbri over Jordan Delorbe at 144, a forfeit at 150, a 58-second pin by Sean Callanan over Cam Guendner at 157, a hard-earn pin in 3:30 by Jaden Fullerton over Colin Todd at 165 and a 9-5 decision from Ryan Hogan over Seamus Macdonald at 175.
Tewksbury got pins at 190 and 215 to set up King’s heroics in the final bout.
The wins were settled a little earlier against Triton and Reading.
Wakefield victories against the Vikings belonged to Michael Barry (120, F 1:23), Lamb (132, F :31), Erik Hubbard (144, MD 13-2), James Fabbri (150, DEC 10-5), Callanan (157, F :53), Hogan (165, MD 13-4), Fullerton (175, TF 17-1) and King (285, F :30).
Wakefield victories against the Rockets belonged to King (285, F :33), Ahmed Othman (215, F 2:58), Hogan (175, F 3:54), Fullerton (165, F 1:26), Callanan (157, F 1:30), Hubbard (138, DEC 9-8), Lamb (132, F :38), Barry (120, F 3:16) and Jason Correia (113, F 1:23).
After their 3-0 sweep on Saturday, the Warriors were flying high into their dual at Lynnfield High School. The visitors left no doubts on their way to a convincing 49-18 win.
Kevin Fabbri started it off with a pin in 3:07 over Zach Inafuku at 106.
Barry broke a 6-6 tie with an 18-1 technical fall victory over Jakob Hulett at 120.
After a forfeit win for Lamb later made it 17-9, Patrick Boyle added to the Warrior lead with a 12-4 major decision victory over Isaac Medford at 144.
James Fabbri followed with a pin in 1:31 over Griffin McCarthy at 150.
Wakefield went on to seal it with wins in four of the final five bouts.
Fullerton pinned Cam Arya in 3:31 at 165.
Hogan pinned Jack Cuddy in 3:25 at 175.
Othman earned a 13-1 major decision over Zack Morse at 215.
King finished with a pin in 1:24 over Dylan Mathews at 285.
The Warriors will look to keep it going this Saturday at 9 a.m. when they travel to Pentucket High for a tri meet against the Panthers and Tyngsborough.
