BOSTON — The MSTCA State Relay Championship is a true test of team depth.

The Warrior boys’ indoor track and field team passed that test with flying colors in the Div. 4 state relays on Sunday at the Reggie Lewis Center, scoring points in 9 out of 10 events en route to a State Relay Championship for the second year in a row and third time in four years.

The shuttle hurdle relay team of Carter Jefferson, Evan Buonopane-Cohen, Jackson McGourty and Aidan Martin kicked things off placing 7th in 30.06 seconds.

The 4×50 yard shuttle dash team of Adam Levy, Edgard Meneguello, Jefferson and JaMauri Belmer placed 9th in a time of 23.18 just a fraction of a second from scoring.

The 4×800 meter relay team of Brandon Nett, Aidan Burd, Evan Buonopane-Cohen and Jacob Ciriello placed 4th in a time of 8:26.29.

The shot put relay team of Frankie Sullivan, Jefferson and Owen Brudnick placed 5th with a total distance of 113 feet 10 inches. Sullivan led the team with his 47’7.25” throw, the 3rd farthest throw of the whole field.

The sprint medley relay team of Isaac Melo, Jackson Conley, Brody Wyatt, and Ethan Mezikofsky placed 2nd in a time of 3:42.81. Their time qualifies them for nationals.

The 4×200 meter relay team of Conley, Meneguello, Wyatt and Melo placed 6th in a time of 1:36.07 despite dropping the baton.

The distance medley relay team of Andrew Nett, Buonopane-Cohen, Brandon Nett and Max Viselli placed 4th in a time of 11:16.91.

The long jump relay team of Belmer, Jack Maksou and Mike Mititchev placed 3rd with a distance of 57 feet 5 inches. Belmer had the 2nd best jump of the day leaping 21 feet.

The high jump relay team of Belmer, Maksou and Mastroianni placed 5th with a total height of 16 feet 1 inch.

The highlight of the meet was undoubtedly the 4×400 meters which was the last event when the Warriors only had a 1 point lead over Pembroke. In order to win the team title, defeating Pembroke was critical.

Melo led off with a strong opener handing the baton off ahead of all teams including Pembroke. Burd extended the lead. Mezikofsky held onto the lead handing off the baton to Wyatt a split second ahead of Pembroke. The Pembroke athlete made three or four strong attempts to pass Wyatt but Wyatt refused to let up the lead, holding him off by pulling away on the last turn with just meters to go and bringing his team to the finish line in a school record time of 3:30.12. Wyatt’s split was also a huge personal best of 50 seconds.  The 4×400 relay will be heading to Nationals in March.
