WAKEFIELD — Wakefield High wide receiver and defensive back Steven Woish is garnering plenty of attention across the state and the Middlesex League as he enters his senior season for the Warrior football team.
Woish was one of 12 wide receivers and tight ends named as Boston Herald Honorable Mentions in their preseason all-EMass football watch list.
He was also named an Honorable Mention in the New England Football Journal’s preseason all-state team.
Woish is one of three senior captains for the reigning Div. 3 Super Bowl champions this year along with OL/DL Joe LaMonica and OL/LB/K Mark Letchford.
Woish is coming off a fantastic season in which he was named a Middlesex League All-Star and All-Conference team member after setting a new Wakefield High record for receiving touchdowns in a season with 8, passing a mark previously set by current Indiana Pacers guard Bruce Brown.
He was also selected to the Massachusetts High School Football Coaches Association’s All-State roster last year.
Woish and the Warriors have one final scrimmage against another reigning Super Bowl champ, Div. 5’s North Reading, who will come to Landrigan Field on Friday at 4 p.m. Wakefield kicks off the regular season next Friday, Sept. 8 on the road against Greater Lawrence Tech at 6 p.m.
