WSSC announces theme for July 4th Children’s Events

JUDGES WITH the West Side Social Club’s 4th of July Committee often have a very hard time choosing the top three finishers in each category because the displays are so good. Last year was no different. (Courtesy file photo)

The Constitution – A Framework for Freedom’

WAKEFIELD — The West Side Social Club 4th of July Committee has announced this year’s theme for the annual Children’s Events held on the morning of July 4th.

The 2025 theme will be: “The Constitution – A Framework for Freedom.” The theme is a guideline for decorating all entries to the Pet, Tricycle, Bicycle, Scooter, Cart, and Doll Carriage parades.

The Children’s Events will take place in the morning hours on Friday, July 4th, beginning with the Fishing Derby, followed by the traditional Children’s Parades.

The Running Races, including the delightful Diaper Derby, will begin at the completion of the Parades, ending with the Canoe-Kayak Races across Lake Quannapowitt.

The Children’s Events have always been a West Side Social Club favorite. The children do an outstanding job, decorating their bikes, scooters, carts — at times making it difficult for the judges to choose the top three in each category.

The theme, selected by the WSSC July Fourth Committee, is in celebration of the United States Constitution and its significance in shaping our American freedoms.

The Constitution is the symbol of liberty that establishes the structure and the power of the Legislative, Executive and Judicial Branches.  It safeguards our freedom through its 10 Bill of Rights, written by James Madison, and the seventeen amendments that followed.

The committee is looking forward to seeing the imaginative entries families will come up with as they participate in this long WSSC tradition.

The multi-talented Buckley Brothers Band will take stage for the evening Concert on the Common. As usual, you can count on them to perform a never-ending array of all-time great hits for everyone to enjoy

The committee also announces the Singing Trooper, Dan Clark, is back this year and will bring the true meaning of celebration of our nation’s birthday.

Prior to his performance and the Fireworks, Dan will share words on the 2025 Honoree, Town Administrator, Steve Maio

The Fireworks will begin at approximately 9:30 pm (weather permitting) over the shores of Lake Quannapowitt.  American Thunder, the truly amazing firework company that has provided the show over the past couple of years, is back again and has promised another magnificent show is planned.

Food concession stands will be available all day and it is encouraged for everyone to come down and enjoy the wide variety of food from the vendors.

All food vendors will be located on the Lower Common.
