WAKEFIELD — Wakefield Fire Chief Michael Sullivan is pleased to announce the promotion of Wakefield Firefighter Arthur Fennelly to Fire Lieutenant. Lieutenant Fennelly will fill the vacancy in the department’s ranks created by the recent passing of Wakefield Fire Lieutenant Robert Ford.
Lieutenant Arthur Fennelly is a seven-year member of the department, is a certified Emergency Medical Technician and a graduate of the Massachusetts Firefighting Academy. Fennelly grew up in Wakefield and graduated with the Wakefield Memorial High School Class of 2009. He holds an Associate’s Degree in Fire Protection and Safety Technology from North Shore Community College as well as a Bachelor of Science in Fire Science Administration from Salem State University. Lieutenant Fennelly is presently serving as a Captain with the United States Army Reserve, where he serves as the Company Commander of a Transportation unit consisting of approximately 170 soldiers. Lieutenant Fennelly’s military service includes a deployment with his transportation unit to Kuwait and Iraq, serving as part of a multinational logistics mission in support of Operation Inherent Resolve.
Lieutenant Fennelly was sworn in by Wakefield Town Clerk Betsy Sheeran during a brief ceremony at the Public Safety Building on December 15, 2021. Wakefield Fire Chief Michael Sullivan was pleased with the promotion of Lieutenant Fennelly, wishing him well in his newly appointed position.
