WAKEFIELD — Extensive overhaul resulted after crews this morning battled a persistent multiple-alarm fire in a building next to the vacant site of the old Ristorante Molise at 460-466 and 477 Main St.

The first report of a fire came around 4:35 a.m. All Wakefield companies responded, and eventually so did several other firefighters from surrounding communities through the mutual aid system.

The building where the fire occurred has many tight spaces. The fire was said to be toughest to fight in the rear basement area, according to a source. Several issues encountered during the fire fight were also dealt with, including one with the water supply.

The fire was officially knocked down just before 9 a.m.

All covering communities were released from the scene between 10 a.m. and 10:30 a.m.

The all-out alarm was sounded at about 10:55 a.m.
