WAKEFIELD — The WMHS boys’ tennis team had two All-Stars to cap off what will go down as one of the best seasons in program history.
The Warriors finished at 11-10 and made the tournament for the first time since 2004. Wakefield was the lowest seed in the Div. 2 North Tournament and found themselves paired with No. 1 Somerville. The Warriors won a thrilling 3-2 match.
Named to the 2019 Middlesex League Freedom Division All-Star team were juniors Lucas Smith and Noah Greif. Greif, a captain and Wakefield’s first singles player, and Smith their second singles player, were both consistent all season as they took on the challenge of competing against each team’s top players.

Smith was named the team MVP at the end of season banquet while Greif earned the most improved player award.
Greif and Smith will both be captains along with Jack Palmer next season.
Leading the balloting in the Freedom Division was Burlington with seven selections. Melrose was next with four, followed by two from Wakefield, Wilmington and Stoneham. Watertown had one All-Star, Freedom MVP Evan Fleischer.
In the Liberty Division, Lexington also had their entire lineup make the All-Star list with seven selections. Winchester was next with four selections, followed by three from Reading, two from Belmont and Arlington and one from Woburn. Belmont’s Shaw Rhinelander was the MVP.
