
WAKEFIELD — Wakefield volleyball senior captain Lila Arkinstall was recently named in a Boston Globe article ranking the top volleyball players to watch in the state this season.
Arkinstall was mentioned in a trio of Middlesex League middle hitters to watch along with Johanna Melhorn of Winchester and Sabine Wenzel of Melrose.
Arkinstall is coming off a 2024 All-Star season in which she led the Warriors in kills with 167 and hitting percentage at .315. She was 2nd in blocks (26) and 3rd in aces (42).
Arkinstall moved into 3rd all-time in Wakefield history with 289 career kills. Her 167 last year was 2nd best in program history as a single season record and her hitting percentage was a single season Warrior record and tops in the Middlesex League.
Arkinstall and classmates Emma Ickes and Jackie Sullivan will create one of the best front lines in the league this season.
Wakefield had one final scrimmage this morning at home against Lynn Classical to prepare for their first match of the regular season which will take place on Tuesday, 6 p.m. against non-league Tewksbury. Wakefield starts league play on Wednesday with a trip to Arlington at 5:30 p.m.
