Warriors win fourth straight indoor Freedom Championship

Beat Burlington to cap perfect regular season

BOSTON — The Wakefield boys’ track and field team capped off another undefeated season on Friday night at the Reggie Lewis Center as they defeated an always threatening Burlington team by a wide margin of 65-35.

In doing so, the boys captured the Middlesex League Freedom Division championship for the fourth year in a row. They went undefeated in all four seasons.

The infield events set the tone early as Eli Gosselin-Smoske took of an unheard-of two tenth’s of a second from his previous best in the 55 hurdles to win in 8.19. Cory Sample ran 10.07 and Josh Catino ran 10.47.

In the 55 meter dash, Wesley Pierre ran the fastest time in the league this season with a winning time of 6.77. Mykease Driggers placed 2nd in a pr time of 6.99. Ryan Obear ran 7.21 and Jamie Poole ran 7.30.

Gosselin-Smoske followed up his hurdle performance with wins in both the high jump and long jump with personal bests as well. He jumped 5’10” for the win in the high jump.

In the long jump, Eli jumped his best of 19’5.5” to place 1st. Jamie Poole jumped 17’3”.

In the shot put, Liam Cosgrove threw 43’4” to place first and Logan Cosgrove placed 2nd throwing 42’8”. Nick Peterson threw 33’7”.

On the oval, the mile was thrilling right to the finish line. Sophomore Mike Roberto ran a seven-second personal best nearly breaking the tape and placing 2nd in 4:34. Freshman Ben Stratton ran a great time finishing in 4:48. Sophomore Ajay Haridasse ran 5:05.

Sophomore Bradley Diaz ran 1:26 in the 600 to place 1st. Ian Schermerhorn came though big with a lean at the line for 2nd place in a personal best of 1:32.10. Zack Jellison ran 1:34. Andrew Roos ran 1:35. Freshman Leith Jones ran 1:39.

In the 1000 meters, Trevor Zupan ran a controlled race to place 1st in a time of 2:41. Jimmy Crump fought hard to place 3rd in a personal best of 2:44.49 missing 2nd by a tenth of a second. Guy Jacob ran a personal best of 2:57 and Colin Rudy ran 2:59.

In the 300 meters, junior Tucker Stikeman ran a personal best of 37.69 to place 2nd. Freddie Sanchez ran a time of 43.87.

In the 2 mile, Matt Roberto placed 2nd in a time of 10:16. Jonathan D’Ambrosio placed 3rd in 10:37. Sophomore Thomas Dowd ran a time of 10:39.

The 4×200 meter relay team of Pierre, Obear, Poole and Driggers ran a winning time of 1:36.11.

The 4×400 meter relay team of Stikeman, Crump, Zupan and Diaz won in a time of 3:40.
