WAKEFIELD — The Wakefield Educational Foundation (WEF) concluded its annual grant cycle in November by awarding $40,019 to the Wakefield Public Schools. The WEF Grant Committee reviewed 25 applications from school administrators, staff and PTOs to support a variety of WPS projects to take place during the 2024-2025 school year. WEF’s competitive grant review process resulted in funding for 22 initiatives across the district.
Grant money will support a combination of district-wide and school-specific programs listed below:
Wakefield Memorial High School: Breezy’s Legacy, continuing the Paws-itive Impact of a Comfort/Therapy Dog at WMHS; Engineering Design and Development EDD; Lizzie Borden and the Forty Whacks Show/Workshop; and Out of the Box Portrait Photography.
WMHS Post Academy: Project Harmony.
Galvin Middle School: Expanding STEM Learning with LEGO Spike Prime; Geography Gameshow GMS 6th Grade; and Grade 5 Watershed Awareness Program.
Galvin Middle School and WMHS: Day of Unity Speaker and WPS Performing Arts, Grades 7-12, A Cappella; Grades 9-12, Theater.
Dolbeare Elementary: Discovery Museum Traveling Science Workshops; Social Emotional Learning Grant; and Tell the Story: Reading, Writing and Wampum.
Greenwood Elementary: Discovery Museum Traveling Science Workshops.
Walton Elementary: Grooversity-Brazilian Beats; LADD (Understanding Our Differences); and Skydome Planetarium.
Woodville Elementary: Discovery Museum Traveling Science Workshops.
Doyle Early Childhood Education Center: Rainforest/Bubble Man and Sensory Diet Project.
District-Wide: Empowering Young Minds with Computer Science Literacy and STEAM Night 2025.
To support the grant process, WEF receives generous funding from key local business partners, private donors and a series of annual fundraisers including WEF’s Wakefield Public Schools Calendar showcasing student art; the S.T.A.R.S. program recognizing exemplary WPS staff; the Online Auction and the Adult Spelling Bee.
