Yes for Melrose volunteers hold rally, then canvass the city to talk to voters

OVER 100 MELROSIANS of all ages gathered for a Yes for Melrose rally on Saturday, September 6 in support of all three override ballot questions on November 4th.

MELROSE — Over 100 Melrosians of all ages gathered for a Yes for Melrose rally on Saturday, September 6 in support of all three override ballot questions this fall.

Participants heard from Mayor Jen Grigoraitis, City Council President Leila Migliorelli and State Representative Kate Lipper-Garabedian.

Many City Councilors and School Committee members joined the event.

Mayor Grigoraitis thanked the many campaign volunteers in attendance. She told the crowd that with the city and state facing damaging federal funding cuts and rising costs, “the time for action is right now. It is up to us to come together and fund our own government, our own schools, our own community.”

President Migliorelli added, “I am proud to say that all 11 city councilors have endorsed the override. This is notable because as a council we certainly don’t agree on everything, but this is one thing we can all get behind: we need this override for our city.”

Representative Lipper-Garabedian pointed out that from her perspective as a Melrose resident, former City Councilor, and current State Representative, Melrose must fund critical services for students, programs for older adults, infrastructure, and public safety. “I’m voting in favor of the override questions and Melrose’s ability to serve its residents, whether they’ve been here 100 days or 100 years. I encourage you to do the same.”

After the rally, volunteers fanned out across all seven wards of the city to talk to neighbors about why they are voting YES, YES, YES down the ballot on November 4th for Melrose.

Yes for Melrose is a multi-generational, non-partisan campaign supporting a tax override to fund public resources for every Melrose resident. Learn more and sign up to volunteer at www.yesformelrose.org.
